Tucked away near Għasri Valley’s entrance, a charming chapel awaits. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary’s patronage, it buzzes with festivities every second Sunday of October.
Built in 1738, the chapel swiftly drew pilgrims from afar. Soon expanded in 1754, it was officially consecrated in 1789, earning the distinction of Gozo’s first countryside chapel with such status. For over 160 years, it remained unique. Notably, it served as a secondary parish church for Għasri village from 1872 to 1921.
Step inside and you’ll encounter a captivating altarpiece, believed to be Francesco Zahra’s work. It depicts the Virgin Mary, surrounded by angels, offering safe haven under her cloak to someone fleeing from Satan.
